|||||||||||||||
For you, the history (sometimes surprising) of the script and the Post from the Ancient world to nowadaysDiscover
the emblem of the profession, the different modes of transport, the
strange way to disinfect the letters, ... what is a poulet [chicken]
! Admire the beauty and the amazing varieties of the
tools
to write. Two
facets of the human history are revealed here !
Today, the postman makes its round in less than half a day: that depends sometimes… on the Géoroute software! And in the past ? How long could that took to him? What were the dangers of its job? And the means of defense? Since when does the post office exist? Why is the horn the emblem of the profession? Why are there only postwomen in Russia? Was La Poste only used to transport the mail? Since when have the houses a letter-box? How could we disinfect the mail in epidemic periods? The Museum
“Postes restantes” answers these questions and many
others.
You find here
objects that
already belong to folklore and archeology, or that the modernization of
the public service makes completely forgotten : litteras, mailboxes and
post signs, sticks, bags, trumpets, clappers, letter scales... because
the post offices are disappearing in many villages, the tools are
modernized,
and we will no more hear the “barbarian”
music
of the stamp on the letters…
Here you can compare the Belgian uniforms with those from France, Russia, Japan, Brazil... and discover the different hats of the postmen: staw hat (Belgian !), caps, kepis, fur hats... This museum currently constitutes, in French-speaking Belgium, the only expression of the history of the post (the Brussel's Museum of the Post office was closed in January 2003). And without written messages, there would have no Post. Then...History of the script
